Fertility Acupuncture, Alongside the Care You’re Already Getting

Fertility Support Acupuncture in St. Petersburg, FL

Trying to conceive and not getting there is one of the loneliest kinds of hard. It’s a monthly cycle of hope and disappointment that most people manage quietly, still going to work, still showing up for everyone else, still answering “any news?” from people who don’t know the half of it.

Dr. Holly Durning works with patients at every stage of that process: some just starting to track cycles, some deep into IVF protocols, some who’ve been trying for years and are exhausted by all of it. She's successfully had patients become pregnant before starting an IVF journey, or has used Eastern Medicine as a complementary part of the picture, used alongside whatever reproductive care a patient is already receiving to help increase success rates.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, fertility is tied closely to what’s called Kidney Jing, the body’s reproductive reserve, along with the health of Blood and the smooth flow of Qi through the Liver system. Stress shows up here constantly. Liver Qi stagnation, TCM’s term for the physical effects of chronic stress, is one of the most common patterns Dr. Durning sees in patients trying to conceive. Treatment typically focuses on supporting that reserve, easing stress-driven stagnation, and building a steady, well-nourished cycle, whatever path to parenthood a patient is on.

How This Works Alongside Your Fertility Care

Dr. Durning does not diagnose or treat infertility as a medical condition, and acupuncture is not a substitute for care from a reproductive endocrinologist or OB-GYN. What it can offer is support: many patients use it to manage the stress of fertility treatment, to prepare the body ahead of an IVF or IUI cycle, or simply to feel like they’re doing something proactive during a process that often feels entirely out of their hands. Dr. Durning is glad to coordinate directly with a patient’s fertility clinic when that’s helpful.

What to Expect

Your first visit is a full conversation, not a five-minute intake: cycle history, any current fertility treatment, stress levels, sleep, and what your body has already been through. From there, Dr. Durning builds a plan, often timed around your cycle or your treatment protocol, and adjusts it as you go.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can acupuncture help me get pregnant?

There’s no guaranteed outcome with any fertility support, acupuncture included. What patients typically use it for is stress management, cycle support, and preparing the body around fertility treatment. Dr. Durning will be direct with you about what acupuncture can and can’t do for your specific situation.

Does acupuncture work alongside IVF or IUI?

Many patients incorporate acupuncture around their treatment cycle, and Dr. Durning can coordinate timing with your clinic’s protocol. This is a supportive addition to your fertility care, not a replacement for it.

How soon should I start if I’m trying to conceive?

There’s no wrong time to start, though many patients begin a few months ahead of an upcoming IVF or IUI cycle to give the body time to respond to consistent treatment.
